Smart visors adapt to sunlight, while intelligent helmets are equipped with indicators and warn cyclists of approaching traffic.
Now a German company is supporting cyclists with normal helmets to receive the help they need in an emergency. Together with a Swedish technology partner, the team has developed a smart, retrofittable buckle for chinstraps.
Using an accompanying app, important medical information such as allergies, illnesses and emergency contacts can be stored in a batteryless chip integrated into the buckle.
First responders read out the information on their mobiles through near field communication. The app also offers a location-based emergency call feature if things get critical for riders.
Hopefully there’ll be a defibrillator nearby if required, or perhaps special staunching powder.
