A smart vice is making laptops safe from theft.
In Spain, meanwhile, a startup has developed a flexible bike lock comprising three cables, which help secure both saddle and wheels. All three cables are connected to a central, mechanised lock.
The core consists of a braided steel cable, which is enclosed by short, hardened, interlocking steel sleeves. Those, again, are protected by a resistant textile.
Once fixed in place, the cables are pulled tight and secured via the main lock. Tests highlighted resistance to bolt cutters. A thief with an angle grinder would need 24 minutes. The lock design is patented.
Some bikes are self-locking, while cars can be protected against theft through a few flicks of a switch.
