Some vehicles move easily between road and rail.
Meanwhile, a Portuguese startup has developed a light EV for on- and off-road driving. The reason? Its founder, the owner of an upmarket country hotel, deemed golf-carts too uncomfortable for his guests.
With its aluminium frame, polymer body and waterproof soft-top, the four-seater weighs only 450kg. A low centre of gravity means it can tackle gradients of up to 25%, while the 12kWh battery and 15kW engine round out the range to 100km.
Inside, minimalism reigns: cork steering wheel, simple digital display, and crossbars in the cockpit for attaching phones or sat-navs. Seat pockets and fastening belts for luggage are modular and easily added.
Unfoldable wheels could facilitate driving in difficult terrain.
