In the meantime, a Viennese startup has developed treatment glasses which use light to alleviate the symptoms of depression.
Depression also manifests itself when the brain’s network grows rigid, compromising its ability to make new connections between nerve cells and – to put it simply – think about something else.
The treatment glasses deliver 60Hz light directly into the eyes. This light, passed on via the optic nerve to the brain, stimulates the neurons and activates the brain’s immune cells (microglia).
They, in turn, break up gridlocked connections such as harmful thought patterns and create new, healthier ones.
Personalised magnetic field therapy also sounds promising in this context, while music can strengthen the neural bonds.
