Meanwhile the way in which people move may be an indicator of their mental health. That is, according to a recent study conducted by a Texas-based research team.
30 young adults first completed a questionnaire assessing their depression or anxiety levels. Next they were filmed by 16 cameras walking or standing up from a chair.
Characteristics of participants’ individual gaits were provided by 68 reflective markers on motion capture suits. This data, combined with participants’ questionnaire responses, was then used to train an algorithm.
After filming other participants who had not filled out the questionnaire, the system was able to predict their mental state with 75% accuracy.
