Onions protect solar modules, securing their long-term output. Hemispherical solar cells could deliver even more electricity.
Now a Norwegian startup’s system is enabling homeowners to harness their solar energy more efficiently and make provisions for the winter months.
First, a fuel cell converts the solar energy into hydrogen. Then, using the firm’s patented technology, it is processed into a solid state. Providing 20x the density of lithium-ion batteries.
The solidified hydrogen is stored underground in a unit that can hold energy up to 10,000kWh. If required, the hydrogen can be converted back into electricity with any thermal discharge used for heating purposes.
Apropos: generating hydrogen from food waste can be accelerated by adding yeast.
