That plant-based substances have anti-inflammatory properties is well known. According to a Japanese research team, however, there’s a lot more besides.

Over a period of 12 weeks, a group of adults with psychological disorders and memory problems received tablets containing 0.8mg 6-MSITC – a bioactive compound present in wasabi, also known as Japanese horseradish.

All participants were aged between 60 and 80. Post study, participants were better able to make connections between people and names. Improvements were also observed in subjects’ short- and long-term memories.

Substances from crimson glory vine help reduce the effects of Alzheimers, while dementia can be stalled by music from our teenage years.
