A huge amount of images for humans to process. Cue a Montreal-based startup which has trained an artificial intelligence using 4.9 million images from universities.

Its algorithm analyses the capsule images and presents the 500 most significant, increasing the chance of an accurate diagnosis.

The system can process all image file formats used by current endoscopy capsules. Following clinical tests, the technology is expected to be approved in the US and Canada next year.

Soon, capsules could also contain edible batteries
