A team from the USA, for instance, examined the impact a single hashtag has had on Hollywood’s annual Academy Awards.
Since 1929, it is predominantly white men who have been nominated for or won awards; women, people of colour, and women of colour especially, are underrepresented.
Since the hashtag was created in 2015, things have started to change, with the percentage of underrepresented people doubling in certain categories.
