New outfits can be created at home. For new hairstyles we visit a barber.
But as two Black alumni from the University of Toronto recently discovered, finding someone we trust to do our hair is easier said than done.
Their response: to design an app for beauty salons run by Black people.
Anyone looking for a new hairstyle can use the platform to book appointments, pay for services and rate performance.
The online marketplace allows salons to access new clients. It also provides information about turnover, preferred styles and visitor numbers.
Thanks to a team of Black investors, the startup’s app is already available in Canada, the US and Great Britain.
In future, hair could help generate renewable energies.
