Fresh air, vitamin C and zinc are all good for our immune system. Fish, meanwhile, need clean water.

Now, a university research team from Russia has hit upon an unusual link between tropical fruit and tilapia fish. Giving the fish pineapple peel powder as a feed additive boosted their disease resistance.

For 8 weeks, 4 different groups of fish received 1 to 4 percent of the pectin- and protein-rich supplement respectively, with the group fed the smallest amount growing the most.

Not only that. Antibacterial enzymes in the fish’s skin mucus were also significantly increased; and the immune system of all groups performed better, the 1% group best again, against streptococcus bacteria.
