We know about the benefits of intergenerational living. Renting your flat out to holidaymakers is easy too.
Now, a startup from the Netherlands is applying the same principle to sailboats.
Using their website, part-time skippers can rent a boat to, say, explore Amsterdam’s canal system or take a romantic cruise along Europe’s coastline.
Boat owners, meanwhile, can upload information, including hiring costs, to the online platform; insurance can be booked alongside.
Interested parties can review options virtually and compare prices. In the event of a booking, the startup collects between 15 and 20% commission.
Over 200,000 people have already benefited from the scheme, and that’s no sailor’s yarn.
