In France, the law obliges companies to offer a repair service for electronic devices.
A similar idea came to four women during a hackathon at Trinity College, Dublin. Their startup enables people to recycle old furniture in three easy steps.
First, furniture owners upload details of individual items to the startup’s online platform.
Next, artists choose a piece which is shipped to them, and, complying with certain specifications, they give it a new lease of life.
Finally, the upcycled product is marketed online at a new price. If sold, 50% of the profit goes to the original owner.
An initiative that could prevent many of the 10 million items of furniture from being needlessly discarded per year.
