Spoiled food is easy to spot.
New inventions can help get rid of harmful substances in water – whether through toxin-absorbent spikes or magnets that attract uranium.
Now, an Irish research team and their startup has developed a PCR test for water.
Within 2 hours, the test can establish whether water contains legionella, a micro-bacterial pathogen which, if undetected, can lead to Legionnaire’s Disease and pneumonia.
The mortality rate for the latter is 10%. The simple, cost-effective tests can be conducted in natural water, as well as in industrial water regulation plants.
Test kits should soon hit the market.
Another means of putting our environment ‘to the test’ and ridding it of harmful substances.
