Now, Shropshire University has launched the UK’s first degree in Sustainable Food and Farming. Undergraduate courses and training modules will showcase the latest thinking and research on livestock and arable farming.
Teaching takes place online with additional ‘on-farm learning’. Courses on agricultural farming, veterinary practice and nutrition are delivered by leading field experts.
A secondary focus: the use of renewable energies and how innovations such as anaerobic digestion plants could help reduce CO2, enabling the industry to achieve its net zero targets by 2040.
Currently, agricultural production in the UK is responsible for 10% of all emissions.
An important new discipline to go alongside developments in Transgender Studies and AI Ethics.
