In the country’s capital city the locals make their money from the agave plant. What’s left from the manufacturing process for tequila is a blessing for the oceans.

An American startup is using the agave waste to produce biodegradable knives, forks, spoons and straws.

ASTM D5511, the standard test method for determining the anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials, showed that after 100 days 90% of the plastic-like cutlery had already decomposed.
