Some bicycle wheels are truly otherworldly.
Now a Stuttgart-based startup is focusing on personalised saddles, taking their cue from cyclists’ behinds. Using an A4 form at home cyclists record the distance between their two seat bones, and photograph it on their smartphones.
Together with information on bicycle model, road performance and sitting posture, this data is fed into an AI alongside users’ age, weight, size and gender.
The AI selects the best fit from 32 different types of saddle, and the saddle is 3D printed. The necessary energy comes from clean power.
Comfort, stability and durability are optimised through a combination of three different processes involving filamentation, sintering and resination.
Also optimal: when bikes double as their own locks.
