Hemispherical solar cells catch the light at multiple angles to generate power.
Similarly, a Swiss startup is taking the sun’s position as its starting point, and its system comprises movable solar modules. They are attached to buildings by a framework, and angled by individual engines towards the sun.
Installed outside windows, the modules provide shade and produce electricity at the same time. Meaning that 20% of current energy consumption could be enough to control building temperatures.
AI building control is planned to adjust the position of the solar modules according to the predicted needs of occupants within – based on weather conditions.
Others have already looked into making windows smart or using rail networks or canal systems to generate solar energy.Â
