A dripping tap can keep us awake at night. But it’s a first world problem. Sea nomads may have their hearts set on this.
And now a startup from the Netherlands has invented a pump that purifies water directly at its source.
Pathogens of diseases such as hepatitis, cholera and diarrhoea are eliminated by a multistage, WHO-approved ultrafiltration process, which works for years thanks to a patented, automatic backwash system.
The pump can be operated manually, electrically or by solar power. It takes 20 minutes to install and can deliver up to 8 litres of clean drinking water per hour.
2 million people already benefit from the innovation, with some 50 million plastic bottles saved.
All hands to the pump!
