Ice-cold insight

Life Science

Research shows that certain illnesses could be treated with natural remedies – even Parkinson’s.

Take cold showers and ice baths, they’re good for our immune systems. But according to a research team at Geneva University, cold itself could help treat autoimmune disorders.

In tests with mice, the team discovered that MS symptoms could be significantly reduced at room temperatures of 10 degrees.

At lower temperatures bodies are busy with heat production, meaning there are fewer resources with which to attack the nervous system.

The study also questions some established habits in the developed world. Is it too warm, for instance, in our living rooms? Could excess heat be contributing to the steep rise in autoimmune diseases?

Time for some cold blood.
