Freedom begins in the mind. Sometimes our limitations are self-imposed.
Take an English veteran who recently swam a kilometre from Drake’s Island back to the mainland at Plymouth. Nothing remarkable in that, you might think.
Only, the former royal marine lost both his legs and an arm while on a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Which makes his achievements all the more spectacular.
In March of this year he raised more than €170,000 participating in a 5km charity run. His swimming exploits, meanwhile, netted a whopping €460,000.
The money raised goes to a charity that helps people suffering from physical or psychological trauma. His next project? A cycling tour.
An inspiration to us all.
