Lions and farm animals can co-exist peacefully.

Now, an autonomous system developed in Sweden is protecting wildlife and infrastructure alike. The startup’s battery- or solar-powered device identifies species and creates acoustic noises accordingly in real time.

On hearing these unexpected sounds, wild animals move away from airports, railway lines and agricultural areas. The system comprises a night-vision camera, motion detector and loudspeaker, as well as a locally running AI.

The latter analyses images to detect individual species and learns from its environment. It can be trained to recognise specific types of species. A cloud platform supplies live data, analysis, device status or remote access.

A similar system warns birds of wind turbines while smart buoys could help protect whales.
