A robot helps children with limited visibility join in conversations. An app enables users with low vision to navigate city streets.
And now a startup in Romania has developed a mobility headset for blind people that works without an internet connection or maps.
Integrated camera sensors continually scan a radius of up to four metres. An AI analyses 90 images per second in real time, making it possible to capture obstacles, people, or bumps in the pavement with 98% accuracy.
Users are guided by tiny vibrations in the headset. Tests have already been conducted in 20 different countries. Additional functions for reading, shopping and hiking are planned.
A modern-day alternative to earlier sensor systems.
