Secured gain

Mobility

It’s important to know ships’ coordinates as well as the effect they’re having on the environment.

Now, smaller boats at anchor can help generate renewable energy through hydropower thanks to a startup based in southeast Alaska.

Its rotor device is secured to the boat by rope; under the water, tidal currents make the rotor spin, powering the generator. Weighing 45kg, the device can produce 1.6kW.

To increase that figure to between 3.6kw and 16kw, multiple devices can be connected and secured to buoys. In the event of wear and tear, the device will be simply exchanged and recycled.

Elsewhere, work is underway to create mini power plants for rivers and use waves for hydraulic solutions
