Salvaging principle

Mobility

In future, circuit boards for PCs could be made from mushrooms.

Now, an EU-financed research team is attempting something even more daring. They are building components for mobile machines from edible materials.

People in remote places could be given drones for dessert while other drones deliver vaccinations to endangered animals.

Work is already underway to create a sprayable sensor with conductive ink made from active carbon, gummy bears and a water-ethanol mixture.

Also on the agenda: soft, waterproof motion elements made from plant-based carbohydrates or gelatin-based batteries.

By the project’s end, a comprehensive list of conductive food stuffs, as well as appropriate production and processing methods should be available.

Until then, drones can continue supplying defibrillators and detecting gas leaks.
