Creative people and hobbyists are known for giving everyday items a second life. And industry needs creative ideas too.
What, for example, can be done with a used 20 meter long wind turbine blade, which despite its ability to generate energy, would otherwise spend the autumn of its life luxuriating at the dump?
Irish engineers are working on a project that would see the enormous, synthetic blades used as pedestrian bridges, soundproof walls or as construction materials for affordable housing.
Or they could be turned into cement, reducing CO2 emissions stemming from cement manufacture by a whopping 27%.
Elsewhere work is underway to make turbine blades from biodegradable materials.
The winds of change are blowing!
