Bed rest doesn’t always make you feel rested.
Nighttime rounds in hospitals can interrupt patients’ sleep and create additional stress for already overburdened medical staff.
Now a research team has developed artificial intelligence that eases the burden on staff and ensures patients get their rest.
Focusing on over two million patients, the system has been trained using almost 25 million vital sign measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, body temperature, respiratory rate and age, and can predict the stability of patients overnight.
With an accuracy rating of 99.98% (and nurses able to spot the remaining misdiagnoses) routine checks, which normally take place every three to four hours, could be consigned to the past.
Time to get a good rest.
