The tropical plant grows in 129 countries and feeds millions of people, but doesn’t have good defenses against disease.
Now researchers from various countries have jointly developed a platform including an app that is free for farmers.
It helps them identify infected banana crops. All in the blink of an eye.
The system, trained by using machine-based learning and images from smartphones, drones, and satellites, can recognize healthy plants as well as symptoms of disease.
With an accuracy rating of 97%, potential dangers can be located and controlled.
Expansion to cover plantations in Africa, India, Australia and South America is planned.
