Big City Growth

Sustainability

The Thammasat University Rooftop Farm is making Bangkok a shade greener, showing how otherwise dull areas of town can come into their own.

Ecological farming, renewable energies and landscape gardening make for a harmonious exchange that is also easy on the eye.

Minutes away from the hurly-burly and pollution of Bangkok’s streets a city farm is flourishing.

Measuring 236,000 square metres, this fertile landscape provides a ready-made answer to the climate crisis.

By using solar energy and collected rainwater, rice, vegetables, fruit trees and herbs can grow here without any need for pesticides.

The result?

Around 20 tons of organic produce each year that can be made into 80,000 meals for students on campus.
