Moving analysis

Depression can be identified through video games.

Now, a joint research team from Britain and the US has used a similar concept to diagnose autism in children. All children have to do is watch a one-minute video and mimic the dance moves displayed on screen.

People on the ASD spectrum often have difficulty responding physicalls to sensory input. A computer-based camera system analysed the moves of 183 children aged 7-13 who participated in the study.

The system distinguished between neurotypical and autistic children with 80% accuracy. When further differentiating between autism and ADHD, the figure was 70%.

Augmented reality-based learning could be helpful post diagnosis, while a video game helps neurotypical people better understand such conditions.
