Period poverty should be a thing of the past. For 84% of South Africans, however, going to the doctor’s is too expensive.

Cue a Johannesburg-based startup whose new app offers affordable assistance from an online network of medical, psychological and nursing personnel.

First, a virtual assistant records users’ medical history and symptoms, data which is saved and made accessible to the whole network.

After receiving initial advice by text, video chat or voice note, users can be put through to the relevant specialist.

Digital prescriptions, referrals or medical certificates are issued accordingly. The first three consultations are free, with a fee of €10 for any subsequent advice.

If life throws up other issues, these “aunties” could soon lend a hand.
